At USC, cutting-edge genetic research
is also being put into play treating and hopefully preventing
colon cancer. Treatment of colon cancer at the USC/Norris is
individualized by using genetic markers to help determine what
drugs or combined treatments will work best for individuals
with certain types of tumors. Our patients will receive a personalized
chemotheraputic regimend. Looking at the genetic makeup of the
tumor and ivestigating what chemotherapies the tumor will respond
to best determines how aggresivly the patient should be treated.
The USC/Norris Cancer Genetics Unit provides a comprehensive
approach to risk assessment, genetic testing and management
of familial colorectal cancer. Patients also are given the opportunity
to participate in clinical trials offering innovative and promising
therapies for colorectal cancer.
