Core Facilities

Core Facilities provides several services for the Cancer Center:

Bioreagent and Cell Culture - Provides reagents for cell culture and prepares Bioreagents that are produced by cells grown in the facility.
Biostatistics - Provides statistical support to clinical, basic science, and cancer cause and prevention investigators. This support may be simple advice, participating in the design of the research project, or carrying out aspects of the data management and statistical analysis of a project.
Cell and Tissue Imaging ("Confocal") -  The Cell and Tissue Imaging Core facility operates under the direction of Dr. David Hinton and is supervised by Ernesto Barron and Anthony Rodriguez. It is located in a 2,100-square-foot, shared-use facility on the USC Health Science Campus within the Vision Research Center (DVRC) Room 214. The facility is available to all in the USC community by appointment 24 hours/day.
CISO -  Provides centralized administration for protocol development, review, prioritization, regulatory compliance, study conduct and monitoring, and quality assurance.  It is comprised of a centralized Protocol Administration Unit and a Research Nursing/Data Management Unit.
DNA - DNA Sequencing, Oligonucleotide Synthesis, Protein Sequencing, Peptide Synthesis.
Facility Services  - Facility Services coordinates building maintenance for the Cancer Center. Request services here.
Flow Cytometry and Immune Monitoring ("FACS")  - Helps address questions in cellular immunology, cell biology, chemical carcinogenesis, radiology, human tumor cell cycle kinetics, mechanisms of drug action and differences between patient samples and normal donors.
Genomics - The Genomics Core Facility performs high throughput analyses of genetic (polymorphism/mutation) and epigenetic variations (DNA methylation) that underlie predisposition and progression to cancer.
Informatics  - Computer support for the Cancer Center.  Request support here.
Microarray - Services available include gene expression profiling with a variety of arrays, including human, mouse, and rat; mutation analyses (p53); HIV, yeast, and bacterial genome analyses; and SNP analyses.
Molecular and Cell Biology Support and Glassware ("Shared Equip") - Provides supervision and maintenance of all shared equipment used by the other Cores.
PharmacoAnalytical - Provides intellectual and analytical support to basic, translational and clinical scientists.
Transgenic/Knockout Mouse - Provides production of transgenic and knockout mice. The Core can also assist with genotyping of mice and expert consultation on vector preparation, mouse developmental biology, and approaches to testing gene function in mice.
Translational Pathology -  Provides normal and tumor tissue specimens necessary for laboratory-based, epidemiologic and clinical cancer research studies.
